Knee arthrodesis

Should all attempts fail to revise the flexible knee prosthesis sufficiently there is the option of knee arthrodesis.

In the past knee fusion could only be achieved by shortening the leg bringing the bone ends together. Immobilisation for bone healing was required for many months. Today we can preserve the leg length and achieve fusion of the bones by bridging the defect with an arthrodesis nail. A fused knee (arthrodesis) is completely stiff but should be pain-free.
